Murals

I love painting murals...

…the contrast of scale from my water-coloured illustrations to these large walls is a challenge I enjoy. My murals are all hand painted, no grids or projectors just my imagination, brushes and paint. I have painted murals for over thirty years in the UK and NZ either working with groups of children or on my own.

Since moving to Rotorua, I have been fortunate enough to paint several murals for local businesses. It is such a great way to brighten up an area, add a unique creative touch and get art that really connects with their business and surroundings. I apply an anti-graffiti sealant on outside murals for extra protection but find that usually the graffiti doesn’t happen once the walls are painted with my artwork.

One of the elements I like the most about mural painting is how much the community gets involved. I get so much positive feedback and people being interested in the procedure. I share work in process photos o social media which is great marketing for the businesses too.

Solid-Rock Backpackers 2024
This back packer hostel has a wonderful friendly vibe, where guests from all over the world stay. They asked me to paint a family tree to add the staff’s photos to. I added the tuis to represent the travellers as they land on the tree staying a while and then flying off again.
Pantry d’or 2024
Concerned about graffiti and wanting to create an eye-catching painting for the community to enjoy they asked me to paint birds and cakes! Which was a great theme for me.
Regent of Rotorua 2024
I painted a natural scene with two Kererus in their spa pool room and then a huge outside wall on their new wing of rooms. Which was 96 square metres in total!
McLeod's Bookesellers 2023
Commissioned me to do chalk art on their blackboard painted windows. After I painted Ernest Rabbit who had a love of books and adventures. They asked me to paint him on permanently.
Carnmore Hotel Christchurch 2020
Working with their interior designer I matched her refurbishment colours and brought the mountain peaks viewed from the hotel windows into the entrance way. I also did a large abstract mural in their dining area.
Scope 2021
This started as just an outside board but became a full-blown Scope style wonderland tea party, including all the owners’ pets.
